Tata, an Indian automaker, has debuted the 315km-range Tata Tiago EV in India. It is a low-cost four-wheeler electric vehicle (EV) and the first of its kind to cost less than 10 lakh rupees ($12,237). Bookings for the Tiago EV, which is available in four trims, will start on October 10 and the first deliveries will start in January 2023.
In India, the Tata Tiago EV is significantly more expensive than its ICE counterpart. Two battery packs and two charging methods are included. The 19.2kWh battery pack has a 250km range, while the 24kWh variant has a 315km range. The Tiago EV comes in four different trim levels: XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech Lux.
The EV batteries have an 8 year/160,000 km warranty and are rated IP67 for dust and water protection. The Tiago EV competes with the Tigor EV ARAI due to its Ziptron high-voltage electric motor, which has a maximum output of 74 horsepower and 114 Nm. While the lower battery type can reach 60 km/h in 6.2 seconds, the larger battery variant can do it in 5.7 seconds.
The Tiago EV’s interior resembles that of its ICE counterpart. On the other hand, it boasts leatherette seats and a steering wheel with blue accents. One more change in the new EV is a rotary dial. The battery pack takes up most of the 240L boot of the car, which lacks a spare wheel but does have a puncture repair kit.
The ZConnect app in the Tiago EV provides access to 45 connected car capabilities. Inside the Tiago EV, there are a number of additional elements that contribute to a wonderful driving experience.
The 19.2kWh battery in the XE grade can be charged using 3.3kW AC. The 19.2kWh or 24kWh battery for the XT variant has 3.3kW AC charging capabilities. The 24kWh batteries of the other variants (XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux) can be charged with either 3.3kWh or 7.2kWh of AC power. While the larger battery model requires 6.33 hours to fully recharge, the 19.2kWh/3.3kW variant can be fully recharged in roughly 5 hours.
The 7.2kW rapid charging variants can complete a full charge in less than 4 hours. The Tata Tiago EVs have pre-sale prices ranging from 8.49 lakh (about $10,389) to 11.79 lakh (around $14,428). The Tata Tiago EV goes on pre-sale in India on October 10; pricing are subject to change after pre-sale.
